At the end of Sept., IAN, a Cat 5 Hurricane tore up Cuba and PR, swept through Miami, swung NW across Marco Island, gut-punched Ft Myers and stranded Sanibel. The destruction was complete. The coast was reduced to rubble. This broad band of slow- moving demolition jibed and prowed NE leaving us in SW Florida affected with varying degrees of damage. Winds over 150 mph uprooted trees, wrecked homes and property; Blue roofs everywhere. Ian wreaked havoc across our peninsula, then headed N transforming the Atlantic shoreline and its coastal high-risers and beach houses. Downgraded, The Storm drowned Charleston and the barrier islands well- past Wilmington , NC. The aerial photos of Ian’s wrath are hard to look at. We are grateful for the rapid response of our Gov DeSantis. So many have lost so much. The above was written over a year ago. There is still tragice loss and repairs not yet done and supplies not available and unaffordable. Sad.
